Diversity Bread® — the trade marks behind your licence

When you bake as a licensed Diversity Bread® baker, you’re baking under a name that is legally protected. Diversity Bread® is a registered UK trade mark, owned by The Sourdough School Ltd, and your licence gives you permission to use it. Here’s what stands behind it, so you know exactly what you’re part of.

The name: Diversity Bread®
Diversity Bread is a registered UK word mark (registration UK00003483294), held by The Sourdough School Ltd and live on the UK Intellectual Property Office register. It is protected across three areas: the bread and bakery goods themselves; the advertising, marketing and retail of those goods; and the education, training and publishing around them. Because it is registered, the name carries the ® symbol — and only licensed bakers, baking to the Diversity Bread® standard, may use it.

The flour and the milling
There is a second registration (UK00003689374) that protects the flour itself and the milling of it — covering the botanical blend flours, their production, and the milling process. This is why the flour you bake with comes only through the licensed mills: the flour is part of the same protected system as the bread, not a separate ingredient you can substitute.

What this means for you as a licensed baker
It means the brand you’re baking under is a genuine, defended asset, not just a name. Customers who see Diversity Bread® — on your loaf, on the QR code, in your window — are seeing a mark that stands for a real, registered standard. Your job is simply to protect it in return: use the name as Diversity Bread® (with the ® on first or most prominent use), bake only to the licensed standard using flour from the licensed mills, and keep all customer-facing wording to discussion of diversity, fibre and how the bread is made — never health claims. Please don’t allow anyone else to use the mark or pass their own bread off as Diversity Bread®; if you ever see it happening, tell us, because protecting the mark protects every licensed baker in the network.

In short: you’re not borrowing a “nice name,” — you’re joining a registered, protected standard developed for a lifetime of practice, and the licence is the repeatable standard tag says your bread has integrity and prominence and that that you belong to a network of independent bakers that a customer can trust on sight.
